All the worlds is a new series started in 2009 of 3D sculptural collages, commenting on different issues to do with mass media, ordinary celebrities and fame. In the ‘All the worlds’ series, I draw inspiration from model-making for theatre, childhood dollhouses, the perspective play in Holbein’s 1533 painting ‘The Ambassadors’ and a found collection of early to mid 20th century photographs of Liverpool, and various women in the public eye. These elements are woven into 3D collage ‘sets’ or ‘worlds’, in which the constituent parts cover and uncover hidden fragments as the audience moves around the work. These worlds within worlds point to both the seen and unseen, the fantastical and the power of the real, and question power dynamics of scale.

I have become increasingly interested in the issue of the subject in the public eye; and notions of consumption, privacy, vulnerability and exploitation. These enquiries led me to begin a series of 3D collages, which act as a kind of metaphorical portrait. Rather than making known, the intention is that they restore mystery to the subject where I feel they have been overexposed. One work responds to Paris Jackson, Michael Jackson's 9-year-old daughter, bared to the cameras at her father's funeral.

"People... want to endure fame, no matter how obvious the warnings are. The strong drink, the meals, the drugs, the luxury - are they the reasons why people want to become famous? Or are they the trappings that ameliorate or obliterate the pain of belonging to everybody? Are they an alluring, seductive cocktail or a date-rape drug?"
